What this involves

What you did Tuesday is the advert.

You already make the content. Every job, every order, every finished thing. It goes on a phone and stays there. That's the whole problem.

The businesses doing well locally aren't making clever adverts. They're posting the same kind of thing twice a week, for two years, until everyone in the town has seen their work.

The other half of it is the local Facebook groups. Somebody asks for a recommendation most weeks, and whoever answers first with a photo gets the job. If you're not in those groups you never see the post.

What I do

  • Set up a photo routine so there's always something to post
  • Post to Facebook, Instagram and your Google listing weekly
  • Join and watch the local groups, and flag the ones worth answering
  • Cut short vertical clips for reels where it suits what you do
  • Keep the accounts consistent so they don't look abandoned between posts

Straight up

What it won't do

Every one of these is something an agency would leave out of the pitch.

  • Go viral. Local business content doesn't need to and mostly shouldn't try
  • Work without photos. If nothing comes off your phone, there's nothing to post
  • Replace the Google listing. Social supports it, it doesn't stand in for it

Questions

Questions people ask

I haven't got time to take photos.

It's two photos, same angle, before and after. Fifteen seconds. People get used to it in about a fortnight and then it's automatic.

Do I need TikTok?

Depends entirely what you do. Some trades and food businesses do absurd numbers on there. For others it's a waste of your evening. I'll tell you which you are.

Can you post as me?

Yes, and it'll sound like you. I write it from what you actually said about the job, not from a content calendar.

Want this sorting?

Send me your business name. I'll look at where you stand on this and tell you whether it's worth paying anyone to fix.
